Research articles usually use standard formats to communicate in a clear manner any kind of information regarding an experiment. A good research article would usually contain a title, an abstract, an introduction, the methodology, the results, a discussion and some references.
An analytical essay is not as easy to do as it seems to. All of your teachers will tell you that it is “an analysis of a text.” That sounds great – if you know what you’re supposed to be “analyzing.” Here’s a more useful explanation of an analytical essay. It’s hard to imagine. In your world of email, IM, tweets, and texts, you might have to write a letter for anything other than as part of an application or perhaps a business letter on the job. And true, letter writing by snail mail just does not occur much anymore.
At some point, and usually at several points in your schooling career, you will be required to prepare and present a speech. This assignment may or may not strike fear into your heart. While these projects are often equated with graduate business coursework, case studies have been around for a long time in many other fields of study.
We have all seen at least excerpts from the movie, “Frankenstein” and perhaps some other films in which mad scientists are working in their labs, among smoking test tubes, and creating horrific things. Not in any of these films will you see a piece of paper – anything that might purport to be notes or notations of what is being done and the results.
